Chinese Dragon Boat Festival
The Chinese Dragon Boat Festival, also known as Duanwu Festival, is celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth month of the lunar calendar. This festival commemorates the ancient poet Qu Yuan, who drowned himself in the Miluo River to protest against corruption. People honor his memory by participating in dragon boat races and preparing traditional foods.
During the festival, families often eat zongzi, which are sticky rice dumplings wrapped in bamboo leaves. The races feature long, narrow boats decorated with dragon heads, and teams paddle in unison to compete. The event promotes teamwork and cultural heritage while bringing communities together.
