Boyana Church
Boyana Church is a medieval Bulgarian Orthodox church located on the outskirts of Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria. It was built in three phases, with the oldest part dating back to the 10th century. The church is renowned for its well-preserved frescoes, which date from the 13th century and are considered masterpieces of medieval art.
In 1979, Boyana Church was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its historical significance and artistic value. The frescoes depict various biblical scenes and figures, showcasing the development of Bulgarian art and culture during the Middle Ages.
