Bowel Rest
Bowel rest is a medical practice that involves temporarily stopping all oral intake of food and fluids to allow the digestive system to heal. This approach is often used for patients recovering from surgery, experiencing gastrointestinal disorders, or dealing with conditions like inflammatory bowel disease or diverticulitis. During this period, nutrition may be provided through intravenous (IV) fluids.
The duration of bowel rest can vary depending on the individual's condition and the healthcare provider's recommendations. While on bowel rest, patients are monitored for signs of improvement, and once their condition stabilizes, they may gradually resume a normal diet under medical supervision.
