Bluetongue Virus
Bluetongue Virus is a viral disease primarily affecting sheep, but it can also infect other ruminants like cattle and goats. The virus is transmitted by biting midges, particularly those in the Culicoides genus. Symptoms in infected animals may include fever, swelling of the face and tongue, and lameness.
The disease is not contagious between animals but can have significant economic impacts on livestock production. Vaccines are available to help control outbreaks, and management practices can reduce the risk of infection by minimizing exposure to biting midges.
