Foot-and-Mouth Disease
Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) is a highly contagious viral infection that primarily affects cloven-hoofed animals, such as cattle, sheep, and pigs. The disease is caused by the foot-and-mouth disease virus and can lead to severe health issues in livestock, including fever, blisters in the mouth and on the feet, and reduced milk production.
FMD can spread rapidly through direct contact between animals or indirectly via contaminated equipment, clothing, or feed. While it poses little risk to human health, outbreaks can have significant economic impacts on the agricultural industry, leading to trade restrictions and loss of livestock.
