Black Petrel
The Black Petrel is a seabird belonging to the family Procellariidae, commonly found in the southern oceans. It has a distinctive dark plumage, with a wingspan of about 1.2 meters. This bird primarily feeds on fish and squid, using its keen sense of smell to locate food while flying over the ocean.
Breeding occurs mainly on islands like New Zealand, where the Black Petrel nests in burrows. The species is known for its long-distance migrations, traveling thousands of kilometers between breeding and feeding grounds. Conservation efforts are in place to protect this vulnerable species from threats such as habitat loss and predation.
