Bitternut Hickory
Bitternut Hickory is a deciduous tree native to eastern North America. It typically grows between 60 to 100 feet tall and features a straight trunk with a narrow crown. The leaves are compound, consisting of five to seven leaflets, and turn yellow in the fall.
The tree produces small, edible nuts that are encased in a hard shell. While the nuts are not as palatable as those from other hickory species, they are a food source for wildlife. Bitternut Hickory wood is strong and dense, making it valuable for furniture and tool handles.
