Biruté Galdikas
Biruté Galdikas is a renowned primatologist and conservationist, best known for her extensive research on orangutans in Borneo. Born on June 29, 1946, in Klaipėda, Lithuania, she moved to Canada as a child. Galdikas studied under Louis Leakey, who also mentored other famous primatologists like Jane Goodall and Dian Fossey.
Galdikas founded the Orangutan Foundation International in 1986 to promote the conservation of orangutans and their habitats. Her work has significantly contributed to the understanding of orangutan behavior and ecology, highlighting the importance of protecting these endangered species and their rainforest environments.
