Orangutan Foundation International
Orangutan Foundation International (OFI) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the conservation of orangutans and their habitats in Indonesia. Founded in 1986 by Dr. Biruté Galdikas, a prominent primatologist, OFI focuses on protecting the endangered Bornean and Sumatran orangutans through various initiatives, including habitat preservation, rehabilitation, and education.
The organization operates the Orangutan Care Center and School in Central Kalimantan, where orphaned and displaced orangutans receive care and training before being reintroduced into the wild. OFI also works to raise awareness about the threats facing orangutans, such as deforestation and illegal wildlife trade, promoting sustainable practices to ensure their survival.
