Birkhahn
The Birkhahn, also known as the Black Grouse, is a large bird native to the forests and moorlands of Europe and parts of Asia. Males are known for their striking black plumage and distinctive fan-shaped tail, which they display during courtship rituals. They are primarily ground-dwelling birds, often found in open areas where they forage for seeds, berries, and insects.
During the breeding season, male Birkhahn engage in elaborate displays to attract females, often gathering in leks, which are communal display areas. Their population is affected by habitat loss and changes in land use, making conservation efforts important for their survival.
