Black Grouse
The Black Grouse is a medium-sized bird native to the forests and moorlands of Europe and parts of Asia. Males are known for their striking black plumage and distinctive fan-shaped tail, while females are brown and mottled for camouflage. They are primarily ground-dwelling birds, often found in open areas where they can forage for seeds, berries, and insects.
During the breeding season, male Black Grouse perform elaborate displays called "lekking" to attract females. This involves puffing up their chests, spreading their tails, and making a series of unique calls. Their populations are affected by habitat loss and changes in land use, making conservation efforts important for their survival.
