Binge Eating Disorder
Binge Eating Disorder (BED) is a serious eating disorder characterized by recurrent episodes of eating large quantities of food, often quickly and to the point of discomfort. Individuals with BED may feel a lack of control during these episodes and often experience feelings of shame or distress afterward. Unlike other eating disorders, such as anorexia nervosa or bulimia nervosa, BED does not involve regular purging behaviors.
People with BED may eat in response to emotional triggers, such as stress or sadness, rather than physical hunger. This disorder can lead to various health issues, including obesity, diabetes, and heart disease. Treatment options often include therapy, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy, and sometimes medication to help manage symptoms.
