Biafra
Biafra is a region in southeastern Nigeria that declared independence in 1967, leading to the Nigerian Civil War, also known as the Biafran War. The conflict arose from ethnic, economic, and political tensions, primarily involving the Igbo people, who sought self-determination due to perceived marginalization.
The war lasted until 1970, resulting in significant loss of life and widespread famine. Although Biafra was reintegrated into Nigeria, the legacy of the conflict continues to influence discussions about regional autonomy and ethnic identity in the country. Today, there are ongoing movements advocating for the rights of the Igbo people and the recognition of Biafra.
