Berta Caceres
Berta Cáceres was a prominent Honduran environmental and indigenous rights activist. She co-founded the Council of Popular and Indigenous Organizations of Honduras (COPINH) and fought against the construction of the Agua Zarca Dam, which threatened the land and rights of the Lenca people. Her activism focused on protecting natural resources and advocating for the rights of marginalized communities.
In 2016, Cáceres was tragically assassinated in her home, drawing international attention to the dangers faced by environmental activists. Her death sparked global outrage and highlighted the ongoing struggles for human rights and environmental justice in Honduras and beyond.
