Bernadotte Dynasty
The Bernadotte Dynasty is a royal family that has ruled Sweden since 1818. It was founded by Jean-Baptiste Bernadotte, a French general who became King Charles XIV John of Sweden. His unexpected rise to the throne came after he was elected by the Swedish Riksdag, or parliament, during a time of political instability.
The dynasty has played a significant role in modernizing Sweden and maintaining its neutrality during conflicts, including both World Wars. Today, the current monarch is King Carl XVI Gustaf, who represents the continuity and traditions of the Bernadotte lineage in Swedish society.
