Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV) is a common inner ear disorder that causes brief episodes of dizziness. It occurs when tiny calcium crystals in the inner ear become dislodged and move into the wrong part of the ear, affecting balance. This can happen when you change the position of your head, such as when you lie down or turn over in bed.
The symptoms of BPPV can be unsettling, often described as a spinning sensation. While it can be triggered by certain movements, it is generally harmless and can be treated with specific head movements or exercises, known as Epley maneuver, to reposition the crystals.
