Bengali Nationalism
Bengali Nationalism is a political and cultural movement that emerged in the 20th century, primarily among the Bengali-speaking people of Bengal. It seeks to promote the identity, language, and culture of the Bengali people, emphasizing their distinct heritage and history. This movement gained momentum during the struggle against colonial rule and later during the partition of India in 1947.
The movement played a significant role in the formation of Bangladesh in 1971, following a war of independence from Pakistan. Bengali Nationalism is characterized by a strong emphasis on the Bengali language, particularly highlighted by the Language Movement of 1952, which advocated for the recognition of Bengali as an official language.
