Belarusian Popular Front
The Belarusian Popular Front (BPF) is a political movement founded in 1988 that played a significant role in advocating for Belarusian independence and democratic reforms. It emerged during the period of perestroika in the Soviet Union and aimed to promote national identity, language, and culture. The BPF was instrumental in the declaration of Belarusian sovereignty in 1990.
The movement has faced challenges, particularly after the rise of President Alexander Lukashenko in 1994, who has been criticized for authoritarian rule. Despite this, the BPF continues to be active in Belarusian politics, promoting democratic values and human rights, often collaborating with other opposition groups.
