Beiyang Fleet
The Beiyang Fleet was a naval force established in the late 19th century by the Qing Dynasty of China. It was created to modernize China's navy and protect its interests against foreign powers. The fleet was based in the northern port city of Dalian and consisted of various warships, including battleships and cruisers.
The Beiyang Fleet played a significant role in the First Sino-Japanese War (1894-1895), where it faced off against the Imperial Japanese Navy. Despite its initial strength, the fleet suffered a decisive defeat at the Battle of Yalu River, leading to the decline of Qing naval power and highlighting the need for further modernization in China's military forces.
