Beirut Explosion
On August 4, 2020, a massive explosion occurred in the port area of Beirut, the capital of Lebanon. The blast was caused by the detonation of approximately 2,750 tons of ammonium nitrate, a highly explosive chemical that had been improperly stored in a warehouse. The explosion resulted in widespread destruction, killing over 200 people and injuring thousands more.
