Bavarian War of Succession
The Bavarian War of Succession (1778-1779) was a conflict primarily between the Habsburg Monarchy and the Kingdom of Prussia. It arose after the death of Maximilian III Joseph, the Elector of Bavaria, who left no male heir. The Habsburgs claimed the Bavarian territory through marriage ties, while Prussia sought to assert its influence in the region.
The war was marked by limited military engagements and diplomatic maneuvering, ultimately resulting in a stalemate. The conflict concluded with the Treaty of Teschen in 1779, which recognized Habsburg claims to Bavaria while maintaining peace between the involved powers.
