The Battle of Karbala took place on October 10, 680 CE, in present-day Iraq. It was a significant conflict between the forces of Yazid ibn Muawiya, the Umayyad caliph, and Husayn ibn Ali, the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad. Husayn and his small group of supporters were opposed to Yazid's rule, which they viewed as unjust and illegitimate.
The battle resulted in the death of Husayn and many of his followers, marking a pivotal moment in Islamic history. This event is commemorated annually during Ashura by millions of Muslims, particularly within the Shia community, as a symbol of resistance against tyranny and injustice.
