Battle of Karbala
The Battle of Karbala took place on October 10, 680 CE, in present-day Iraq. It was a significant conflict between the forces of Yazid ibn Muawiya, the Umayyad caliph, and Husayn ibn Ali, the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad. Husayn and his small group of supporters were surrounded and ultimately killed, marking a pivotal moment in Islamic history.
This battle is commemorated annually by millions of Muslims, particularly by the Shia community, during the month of Muharram. The events at Karbala symbolize the struggle against tyranny and injustice, reinforcing the importance of standing up for one's beliefs.
