Battle of the Wabash
The Battle of the Wabash, also known as the Battle of the Wabash River, took place on November 4, 1791. It was a significant conflict during the Northwest Indian War, where a coalition of Native American tribes, led by Little Turtle and Blue Jacket, faced off against the forces of the United States, commanded by General Arthur St. Clair. The battle occurred near the Wabash River in present-day Indiana.
The battle resulted in a devastating defeat for St. Clair's troops, marking one of the worst defeats for the U.S. Army at the hands of Native American forces. Approximately 600 American soldiers were killed, and the loss highlighted the challenges faced by the U.S. government in asserting control over the Northwest Territory and negotiating with Native American tribes.
