Battle of Talikota
The Battle of Talikota was fought on January 26, 1565, between the forces of the Vijayanagara Empire and a coalition of Deccan Sultanates. This significant battle took place near the town of Talikota in present-day Karnataka, India. The Vijayanagara army, led by Rama Raya, faced a united front from the Sultanates, which included the Bahmani Sultanate and its allies.
The battle resulted in a decisive victory for the Sultanates, leading to the decline of the Vijayanagara Empire. Following the defeat, the empire's capital, Hampi, was sacked, marking a turning point in South Indian history and altering the region's political landscape.
