Battle of Szigetvár
The Battle of Szigetvár took place in 1566 between the forces of the Ottoman Empire, led by Sultan Süleyman the Magnificent, and the defenders of the fortress of Szigetvár, commanded by Nikola Zrinski. The battle was part of the Ottoman campaign to expand their territory in Europe and lasted from August 6 to September 8.
Despite being heavily outnumbered, Zrinski and his troops put up a fierce resistance, holding off the Ottomans for over a month. Ultimately, the fortress fell, but the battle is remembered for its heroic defense and the significant delay it caused in the Ottoman advance into Central Europe.
