Battle of Keresztúr
The Battle of Keresztúr was a significant military engagement that took place during the Hungarian Revolution of 1848. It occurred on July 31, 1849, near the village of Keresztúr, located in present-day Romania. The battle was fought between the forces of the Hungarian army and the Austrian Empire, which sought to suppress the revolution and maintain control over Hungary.
In this confrontation, the Hungarian troops, led by General János Damjanich, aimed to defend their territory against the better-equipped Austrian forces. Despite initial successes, the battle ultimately ended in defeat for the Hungarians, contributing to the eventual suppression of the revolution and the re-establishment of Habsburg authority in the region.
