Battle of Granicus
The Battle of Granicus took place in 334 BCE and was the first major battle between Alexander the Great and the forces of the Persian Empire. It occurred near the Granicus River in modern-day Turkey. Alexander, leading a Macedonian army, aimed to expand his empire and liberate Greek cities under Persian control.
In this battle, Alexander's troops faced a well-prepared Persian army commanded by local satraps. Despite being outnumbered, Alexander's tactical skill and boldness led to a decisive victory, marking the beginning of his campaign against Persia and solidifying his reputation as a formidable military leader.
