Battle of Angamos
The Battle of Angamos took place on October 8, 1879, during the War of the Pacific, which involved Chile, Peru, and Bolivia. This naval battle was fought near the port of Angamos in southern Peru. The Chilean navy, under the command of Admiral Galvarino Riveros, aimed to secure control of the sea and cut off Peruvian supply lines.
In this decisive engagement, the Chilean fleet faced the Peruvian ironclad Huáscar, commanded by Captain Miguel Grau. Despite the valiant efforts of the Peruvian forces, the battle ended in a significant Chilean victory, leading to the capture of the Huáscar and solidifying Chile's naval dominance in the region.
