Battle Of Chickamauga
The Battle of Chickamauga was fought from September 18 to September 20, 1863, during the American Civil War. It took place in northwestern Georgia and was one of the war's major battles. The conflict involved the Union Army, led by General William Rosecrans, and the Confederate Army, commanded by General Braxton Bragg. The battle resulted in a significant Confederate victory, forcing the Union forces to retreat to Chattanooga.
This battle was notable for being the second deadliest engagement of the Civil War, with around 34,000 casualties. The intense fighting showcased the strategic importance of the Chickamauga Creek area and set the stage for the subsequent Siege of Chattanooga.
