Batista Regime
The Batista Regime refers to the government led by Fulgencio Batista in Cuba from 1952 to 1959. Batista initially came to power through a military coup and ruled as a dictator, suspending the constitution and suppressing political opposition. His regime was marked by corruption, human rights abuses, and close ties to the United States, which supported his government for strategic reasons during the Cold War.
The Batista Regime faced increasing resistance from various groups, most notably the 26th of July Movement led by Fidel Castro. This opposition culminated in the Cuban Revolution, which ultimately resulted in Batista fleeing the country in January 1959, paving the way for Castro's rise to power and the establishment of a communist government in Cuba.
