Basilica of Covadonga
The Basilica of Covadonga is a Roman Catholic church located in the Asturias region of northern Spain. Built between 1901 and 1906, it features a neo-Romanesque architectural style and is situated near the Covadonga Lakes and the Picos de Europa mountains. The basilica is dedicated to Our Lady of Covadonga, the patron saint of Asturias, and is an important pilgrimage site.
The basilica is notable for its twin towers and stunning stained glass windows. It is part of the Covadonga Sanctuary, which includes the Cave of Covadonga, where the Virgin Mary is believed to have appeared. The site holds historical significance as it commemorates the victory of Pelayo, a Christian leader, over the Moors in the early 8th century.
