Barnegat Lighthouse
Barnegat Lighthouse, also known as Old Barney, is located on the northern tip of Long Beach Island in New Jersey. Built in 1859, it stands 172 feet tall and is one of the state's most iconic landmarks. The lighthouse was constructed to guide ships safely through the Barnegat Inlet, a crucial passage for maritime traffic.
The lighthouse is part of the Barnegat Lighthouse State Park, which offers scenic views, walking trails, and picnic areas. Visitors can climb the 217 steps to the top for a panoramic view of the surrounding area, including the Atlantic Ocean and the nearby Barnegat Bay.
