Bar-tailed Godwit
The Bar-tailed Godwit is a large shorebird known for its long, slender bill and distinctive plumage. It has a brown and white speckled body, which helps it blend into its coastal habitat. This bird is famous for its incredible migratory journey, traveling thousands of miles between breeding grounds in the Arctic and wintering areas in New Zealand and Australia.
These birds are skilled foragers, often seen probing mudflats for invertebrates. The Bar-tailed Godwit is also notable for its ability to fly non-stop for long distances, with some individuals recorded flying over 12,000 kilometers without resting. Their remarkable endurance makes them one of the most impressive migratory birds in the world.
