Red Knot
The Red Knot is a medium-sized shorebird known for its long migrations. It has a distinctive reddish-brown plumage during the breeding season, which changes to a more muted gray in winter. These birds are found in various habitats, including coastal areas and mudflats, where they feed on invertebrates.
Red Knots are remarkable for their long-distance travel, often flying thousands of miles between breeding grounds in the Arctic and wintering areas in South America and the southern United States. Their migration is closely linked to the availability of food sources, such as horseshoe crab eggs, which are crucial for their energy needs during this journey.
