Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM)
The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) is an autonomous political entity in the southern Philippines, established in 2019. It was created to provide greater self-governance to the Muslim population in the region, following decades of conflict and negotiations. BARMM replaced the previous Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) and aims to promote peace, development, and cultural identity.
BARMM has its own government, which includes an elected parliament and a chief minister. The region encompasses several provinces, including Maguindanao, Lanao del Sur, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi. The establishment of BARMM is part of the peace agreement between the Philippine government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).
