In 1204, Baldwin IX was elected as the first Emperor of the Latin Empire after the Fourth Crusade captured Constantinople. His reign as emperor was marked by challenges, including internal strife and external threats. Baldwin IX's rule ended in 1205 when he was captured by the Bulgarians during a battle.
