Baldwin I of Flanders
Baldwin I of Flanders, also known as Baldwin I of Constantinople, was a prominent medieval ruler born around 1172. He became the first Emperor of the Latin Empire of Constantinople after the Fourth Crusade in 1204. Baldwin was the son of Baldwin V of Flanders and Margaret I of Flanders, and he played a significant role in the establishment of Latin rule in the Byzantine capital.
His reign was marked by challenges, including conflicts with rival factions and the need to secure his empire's territory. Baldwin was captured by the Bulgarians in 1205 during a battle and later died in captivity. His leadership laid the groundwork for the Latin Empire, which lasted until 1261.
