Baglihar Hydroelectric Project
The Baglihar Hydroelectric Project is a major hydroelectric power station located on the Chenab River in the Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir, India. It was commissioned in 2008 and has a total installed capacity of 900 megawatts, generated by two powerhouses with three units each. The project plays a crucial role in providing electricity to the region and supports local development.
Constructed by the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC), the project faced various challenges, including environmental concerns and disputes with Pakistan over water sharing. Despite these issues, the Baglihar project is considered a significant achievement in India's renewable energy sector, contributing to the country's energy security.
