Bacon's Rebellion
Bacon's Rebellion was an armed uprising in 1676 in the Virginia Colony, led by Nathaniel Bacon. The rebellion was fueled by frustrations among settlers over issues like land disputes, high taxes, and the lack of protection from Native American attacks. Bacon and his followers demanded more aggressive action against the Native tribes and sought to challenge the authority of the colonial government.
The rebellion highlighted tensions between wealthy planters and poorer settlers. After Bacon's death from illness, the rebellion lost momentum, and colonial leaders took steps to prevent future uprisings by addressing some grievances, but the underlying issues of class and governance persisted in the colony.
