Azai clan
The Azai clan was a prominent samurai family in Japan during the late 16th century. They were based in the Omi Province and played a significant role in the Sengoku period, a time of intense military conflict and political intrigue. The clan is best known for its rivalry with the Oda clan, particularly during the battles for control over central Japan.
The most notable leader of the Azai clan was Azai Nagamasa, who was known for his military skills and strategic alliances. He married Oichi, the sister of Oda Nobunaga, which initially created a bond between the two clans. However, tensions eventually escalated, leading to the downfall of the Azai clan in 1573.
