Omi Province
Omi Province, located in present-day Shiga Prefecture in Japan, was one of the historical provinces during the Nara and Heian periods. It is situated near Lake Biwa, the largest lake in Japan, and was known for its fertile land and strategic location along trade routes.
The province played a significant role in the development of Japanese culture and politics. It was home to important historical sites, including the Hieizan temple complex, which is associated with the Tendai sect of Buddhism. Omi Province's rich history continues to influence the region today.
