Ayatollahs
Ayatollahs are high-ranking religious leaders in Shia Islam, particularly in Iran. The title is given to scholars who have demonstrated extensive knowledge of Islamic law and theology. They play a significant role in guiding the community on religious and moral issues, often interpreting Islamic texts and teachings.
In Iran, Ayatollahs hold considerable political influence, especially since the 1979 Islamic Revolution. The most prominent Ayatollah, Ali Khamenei, serves as the Supreme Leader, combining both religious authority and political power. This dual role allows Ayatollahs to shape both spiritual and governmental policies within the country.
