Atonic Seizures
Atonic seizures, also known as "drop attacks," are a type of seizure characterized by a sudden loss of muscle tone. This can cause the person to collapse or fall, often leading to injuries. Atonic seizures typically last only a few seconds and can occur in clusters, making them particularly challenging for those affected.
These seizures are most common in individuals with epilepsy, especially in children. They can be triggered by various factors, including stress, fatigue, or illness. Treatment options often include medications, such as anticonvulsants, to help manage and reduce the frequency of these seizures.
