Atholl Highlanders
The Atholl Highlanders is a private army formed in 1757 by the 2nd Duke of Atholl in Scotland. It is unique as it is the only private army in the UK and consists of around 100 volunteer soldiers. The regiment primarily serves ceremonial purposes, participating in events such as parades and local celebrations.
The Atholl Highlanders wear traditional Highland dress, including kilts and sporrans, reflecting their Scottish heritage. They are based at Blair Castle, the ancestral home of the Dukes of Atholl, where they also conduct training and community events.
