Assam Movement
The Assam Movement was a significant socio-political movement in the Indian state of Assam that took place from 1979 to 1985. It aimed to protect the rights and identity of the indigenous Assamese people against illegal immigration, primarily from neighboring Bangladesh. The movement was marked by widespread protests and demands for the identification and deportation of illegal immigrants.
The movement was led by various organizations, including the All Assam Students' Union (AASU), and culminated in the signing of the Assam Accord in 1985. This agreement aimed to provide a framework for addressing the concerns of the Assamese people, including the protection of their cultural and linguistic identity.
