Article 370 was a provision in the Indian Constitution that granted special autonomy to the region of Jammu and Kashmir. This meant that the state had its own constitution and considerable independence in governance, except in matters of defense, foreign affairs, finance, and communications. The residents of Jammu and Kashmir enjoyed certain privileges, such as exclusive rights to own property and limited access for outsiders.
In August 2019, the Indian government revoked Article 370, integrating Jammu and Kashmir more closely with the rest of India. This move sparked significant debate and controversy, as many viewed it as a way to promote national unity, while others saw it as an infringement on the region's unique identity and rights.
