Arteritic AION
Arteritic AION, or Arteritic Anterior Ischemic Optic Neuropathy, is a condition that occurs when blood flow to the optic nerve is reduced due to inflammation of the arteries, often associated with Giant Cell Arteritis. This condition typically affects older adults and can lead to sudden vision loss in one eye.
Symptoms of Arteritic AION may include blurred vision, visual field loss, and pain around the eye. Prompt diagnosis and treatment are crucial to prevent further vision loss, often involving corticosteroids to reduce inflammation and restore blood flow to the optic nerve.
