Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Dysplasia
Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Dysplasia (ARVD) is a rare heart condition that primarily affects the right ventricle, one of the heart's chambers. In ARVD, the heart muscle is replaced by fatty or fibrous tissue, which can disrupt the heart's electrical signals and lead to irregular heartbeats, known as arrhythmias. This condition can increase the risk of sudden cardiac arrest, especially in young athletes.
ARVD is often inherited and may be associated with genetic mutations. Symptoms can include palpitations, dizziness, and fainting. Diagnosis typically involves electrocardiograms (ECGs), imaging tests like MRI, and sometimes genetic testing to identify affected individuals and manage the condition effectively.
