Arras Offensive
The Arras Offensive was a military campaign during World War I, launched by the British Expeditionary Force in April 1917. Its primary goal was to break through the German defenses in northern France and relieve pressure on the French forces at Verdun. The offensive began on April 9 and involved a series of attacks around the town of Arras.
Despite initial successes, including the capture of Vimy Ridge, the offensive ultimately stalled due to strong German resistance and difficult terrain. The campaign resulted in heavy casualties on both sides, with limited territorial gains for the Allies, and concluded by the end of May 1917.
